This game is basically THE perfect game. It's got a great story, fabulous supporting characters, neat combat, plenty of interaction (Celestial Brush, anyone?), and, of course, breathaking Sumi-E graphics. Whatever problems the PS2 had, the Wii does its best to fix - thanks to the Wiimote, the Celestial Brush has become much, MUCH easier to use. But enough of that! On with the review!
Story: 10/10 - Epic! The sun goddess Amaterasu, trapped in the form of a wolf, must save Nippon from dark forces engulfing it. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. From there on out, there are enough twists, turns, revalations, and missions to make this one of the best stories I've seen in gaming. And I've seen a lot of stories.
Gameplay: 10/10 - Painting to harness the elements, whether the purpose is to create or destroy. What a capital idea! Throw in the melee aspect of combat, which is good (although the reflector can be very unwieldly sometimes), and the open overworld just waiting to be explored, and you've painted a masterpiece. The Wii version also fixes whatever problems you may have had with the brushwork with the Wiimote.
Graphics: 10/10 - Forget 1080 points HD or whatever. Sumi-E cel-shading can trounce it completely. Some stylization here or there doesn't hurt, either.
Fun: 10/10 - Although it may be hard for recent gamers to swallow, this game is one of the most fun I've played in ages. Some of the wandering may get repetitive, but the rest of the game more than makes up for it.
Overall: 40/40 - A wonder to behold, regardless of platform, althugh the Wii version does fix some gimmicks for the PS2. Get more detail about Okami.
